Radioactivity
Summary
The discovery of radioactivity by Henri Becquerel in 1896, and the subsequent pioneering research by Marie and Pierre Curie, fundamentally changed our understanding of matter and energy. Marie Curie's work led to the isolation of new elements and the development of medical applications, like X-rays, but also revealed the immense power locked within the atom.
"Nothing in life is to be feared, it is only to be understood. Now is the time to understand more, so that we may fear less."
— Marie Curie
