Heliocentrism

Summary

Heliocentrism was a revolutionary model that opposed the long-held geocentric view (that the Earth was the center). While the idea was proposed by ancient philosophers, it was Nicolaus Copernicus who formulated a mathematical model that began the Scientific Revolution. Galileo Galilei's observations with his telescope provided crucial evidence supporting the heliocentric theory, leading to his famous conflict with the Church.

"The Sun, with all those planets revolving around it and dependent on it, can still ripen a bunch of grapes as if it had nothing else in the universe to do."

— Galileo Galilei
